ORIENTAR
I want to go to Orientar
where the meadows glow purple
with frankincense flowers.
I want to watch children
laughing and singing,
collecting the gold that falls
from the sky. No one goes hungry
in Orientar, for the orchards
of myrrh bear fruit all the year.
The kings and the queens
of Orientar are kindly and wise
and they follow their stars.
When I was a little kid, I was sure that there was a place called Orientar, because We Three Kings came from there.
Love this! It needs to become a children’s book with some wonderful illustrations.
Do you do illustrations? I’d love to see them. Whenever i hear that hymn, I still think of the weird country the Magi came from. Did you know it was written by a Vermonter?
