A QUICK BLESSING FOR SPRING

Be like curtains in the wind,
on the clothesline, in the sunshine,
like a river singing piffle
as it wanders over stones,
and trout lilies and their sisters
who close up when it rains,
and parsnip roots sweet as honey
after winter’s long siege.
Be like a bird, all happy
with three blue eggs
and like small children
in rubber boots, free at last
to ride their tricycles.
